Preservation & Restoration
The ecosystem of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary is fragile, and Florida Keys marine environment has reached a perilous intersection. The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the Marine Preservation Society of the Florida Keys focus efforts to combat coral disease and restore the reef, add urgency to understand and replace seagrass, and reintroduce natural species to necessary cycles. Additionally, through FKNMS endorsed programs, Underwater and mangrove marine debris is addressed on a continual basis.
Engagement
The Marine Preservation Society of the Florida Keys recognizes the entire Florida Keys community is dependent upon our marine environment. We engage current residents and future leaders to ensure generations of preservation. Of particular focus is NOAA’s Ocean Guardian School programming and the Blue Star program established by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Infrastructure
The Marine Preservation Society is the lead catalyst in funding the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary’s pioneering buoy and marker system to support sustainable recreational and commercial use. Additionally, we continue to fund improvements to the Eco Discovery Center, the Keys premier marine facility used to educate and encourage stewardship of the marine environment.
